This program was such a rollercoaster ride for me; it was a good experience because I always wanted to try to live independently, far from my comfort zone, especially since I want to work abroad in the future. But I will be completely honest: there were more downs rather than ups. I had a hard time communicating with the school since not everyone is fluent in English. They placed me in Nursery for a much longer time than what was initially talked about; I felt like my time in their school mainly consisted of me taking care of the kids rather than being able to practice teaching and lesson planning. It felt like I had no mentor there; they rarely talked to me except for Teacher Sao, but she wasn't in charge of answering my queries; our talks were mostly "kumustahans," which I greatly appreciate. Everyone was still kind, but I felt the gap because of our language barrier, and they told me it was also their first time handling an intern. I am still beyond grateful for everything, but I do hope that next time, it will be better if the schools are fully ready and equipped because a college intern traveling to another country requires a whole lot of time, effort, money, and commitment. But at the end of the day, I learned, I grew, and I am still blessed. Maraming salamat po!
